Fabrikanten der Wirklichkeit (Display)
Installation, display and stage. Single- and multi-channel video, objects, postcards, scaffolding, audio piece, performances
2022
The investigative series »Fabrikanten der Wirklichkeit / Fabricating Reality« expanded into space. Shown here are traces, material witnesses to the questions raised in the series, all arranged on and around a scaffolding that serves the triple purpose of display, archive and stage.
A paleontological artifact—the stunningly inaccurate 1961 model of an Iguanodon dinosaur, on display for decades at the local natural history museum—partially reconstructed around a skeleton made from scaffolding and set in front of a green screen takes up most of the first room.
In the second room, a scaffolding stretches over two levels. Programming here features past episodes of the continuously expanded »Fabrikanten der Wirklichkeit / Fabricating Reality« series, on view via flatscreens, artifacts and—here, the display turns into a stage—in three live lecture performances taking place over the course of the exhibition.
The past episodes on display give an introduction into the world of fabricated realities, peek into the occult mind of Hermann Bahlsen, the great Hanoverian cookie manufacturer who collaborated with the megalomaniac sculptor Bernhard Hoetger on designs for his metaphysical company town called »TET Stadt« in the early 20th century, and meditate on the function of the ghost as a phenomenon in cultural history and in our seemingly disenchanted world, but nonetheless as key to the contemporary perception of reality.
The individual episodes can be found on the platform fabricating.it
